zCLOUD vs Vast AI: A Vast AI Alternative for Capacity, Network, Location and Cost to Completion

Vast.ai runs a GPU marketplace where hosts list machines at prices they set. zCLOUD offers a Vast AI alternative: it buys H100 capacity from 40+ providers and assigns each order to the best offer.

Vast.ai charges less on published H100 rates, with marketplace listings from $1.73 per GPU-hour against $3.75 on zCLOUD in October 2026.

zCLOUD fits sustained training and production inference on reserved clusters, which it aims to deploy in under 6 hours. Vast.ai fits jobs that save checkpoints, copies of their progress, and can restart when a host takes back the machine.

zCLOUD vs Vast.ai Comparison Table

The table lines up each side's H100 starting rates and terms as of October 2026. An interruptible machine costs less than an hourly listing because the host can reclaim it mid-job.

Where Do Vast.ai and zCLOUD Get Their H100 Capacity?

Vast.ai rents out machines that independent hosts and data centers list on its marketplace. zCLOUD buys GPU time from 40+ third-party providers and publishes the criteria a provider must meet to join.

Vast.ai rents those machines in three tiers, and the tier decides whether a host can reclaim the machine:

  1. On-Demand: a fixed hourly rate without interruptions, which Vast.ai sells for production work.
  2. Interruptible: a bid for spare capacity at 50%+ below the hourly rate. A higher bid or an on-demand renter can take the machine, so it suits jobs that save checkpoints.
  3. Reserved: a 1-, 3- or 6-month term at up to 50% off, booked through Vast.ai's sales team, with the GPUs held for the term.

zCLOUD sells H100s in three models, and the model sets the wait for GPUs:

  1. On-Demand: hourly H100s without a commitment, launched in seconds, for prototyping, evaluation and inference with changing demand.
  2. Reserved Clusters: a term commitment for sustained training and production inference, with a target of under 6 hours from confirmed requirements to deployment.
  3. Private Cloud: a custom deployment whose timeline follows the buyer's procurement and security review.

What Does an H100 Month Cost on Vast.ai and zCLOUD?

Eight H100s running for a 720-hour month cost about $9,965 at Vast.ai's lowest hourly listing and $16,070 at zCLOUD's reserved starting rate. The table multiplies each starting rate by eight GPUs and 720 hours, before storage, data transfer and time lost to restarts.

OptionRate per GPU per hourEight GPUs for 720 hours
Vast.ai interruptible$0.67$3,859
Vast.ai hourly$1.73$9,965
zCLOUD reserved$2.79$16,070
zCLOUD hourly$3.75$21,600

Vast.ai's figures assume eight GPUs at its lowest listing. Its H100 SXM page showed an empty offer list when we checked on 20 October 2026, so that rate may be gone when a buyer needs eight GPUs.

Each time a host takes back an interruptible machine, the job restarts from its last checkpoint and the buyer pays again for the lost hours.

Cost to completion counts those reruns, plus time spent waiting for GPUs, in the price of finishing a job.

Term prices need a written quote from both sides for the same term. Vast.ai offers up to 50% off its hourly rate on 1-, 3- or 6-month terms, and zCLOUD sets the term for its $2.79 starting rate in the quote.

One-year H100 rental contracts rose almost 40% from October 2025 to March 2026, reaching $2.35 per GPU per hour, in figures from SemiAnalysis, a chip industry research firm. A buyer who waits to reserve pays more than today's rate if that rise continues.

Our breakdown of GPU rental pricing explains how chip supply and power costs raised that rate.

How Do Vast.ai and zCLOUD Connect GPUs for Multi-Node Training?

Vast.ai sells multi-node training through a separate Clusters product, with uptime commitments and custom networking arranged by its sales team.

RunPod, a rival GPU cloud, says in a comparison with Vast.ai that two machines rented separately on the marketplace may lack a fast network link. A slow link stretches training spread across servers, because the GPUs exchange data after each training step.

Zettabyte designs its zFABRIC network to scale from thousands to hundreds of thousands of GPUs, with optics, switch capacity and power setting the limit. It runs on RoCEv2, a standard for moving data directly between GPU servers over Ethernet.

The scale range counts as a design target until an independent benchmark tests the network.

Who Can Reach a Running Vast.ai Container?

RunPod's comparison says Vast.ai hosts on the Community and Verified tiers can see the processes, mounted storage and files inside a renter's container.

Vast.ai's Secure Cloud tier runs on data center partners that Vast.ai audits for ownership and facility security. It accepts workloads covered by HIPAA, the US health-data privacy law.

Vast.ai holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification, an independent audit of its security controls, and shares the report under a non-disclosure agreement.

zCLOUD also runs on third-party providers' machines, so ask each platform in writing who can reach the host under a running job.

How Do Vast.ai and zCLOUD Handle Location Requirements?

Vast.ai lets renters filter listings by location across 40+ data centers. zCLOUD defaults to the best available price and routes a required region through its sales team.

The zCLOUD sales step records the location in the order before GPUs are assigned, so a buyer whose data must stay in one country gets that requirement in writing.

Which H100 Jobs Fit Vast.ai and Which Fit zCLOUD?

Teams comparing Vast.ai alternatives can sort H100 work by how the job runs:

  1. Short experiments: Vast.ai, where interruptible H100s start at $0.67 per GPU per hour and the catalog spans 68+ GPU types.
  2. Batch jobs that save checkpoints: Vast.ai, as long as the job resumes after a host reclaims the machine.
  3. Sustained multi-node training: get written quotes from Vast.ai Clusters and zCLOUD Reserved Clusters for the same term, since both price multi-node work through sales.
  4. Steady production inference: zCLOUD, which buys from 40+ providers and aims to have a cluster running in under 6 hours.
  5. Work tied to one country: Vast.ai when a listed location has the H100s the job needs, or zCLOUD when the location has to be written into the order.

zCLOUD on-demand rents H100s from $3.75 per GPU per hour without an upfront commitment.
